Jim Staley

James B. (Jim) Staley, 56, lifelong resident of Willard, passed away Friday, October 9, 2009 in Cox South Hospital. James was born July 15, 1953, in Springfield to Edward and Ramona Staley. Jim was a 1971 graduate of Willard High school and a 1975 graduate of Mlssouri Valley College with a degree in economics. It was at Missouri Valley that Jim met his wife Montene, who he married on May 18, 1975, the day after college graduation. Jim and Montene had two children, James E. and Courtney. After graduation Jim became the fifth generation to take over the Staley Acres Angus Farm north of Willard. He ran the farm for 28 years before retiring and beginning a second career helping students in financial aid and admissions at Ozarks Technical College. It was a fitting role for Jim because of his value for education and his way with people. Jim was a proud and active member of the Willard Community.

He served in many voluntary roles including President of Lion's Club, Willard A+ Advisory Board Member, Chairman of the Greene County Farm Services Agency, Member of the University of Missouri Extension Council, and President of the Willard Alumni Association. He was a lifelong member of the Willard Mt. Zion Presbyterian Church. Jim was known throughout the community as a man with a quick smile and an uncommon generosity.

Jim is survived by his wife and children as well as his twin sister Kate Marymont and her spouse Mark of Falls Church, VA; his older siblings and their spouses Harry and Pat Staley of Arlington, TX; Susan Staley, Charles and Sharon Staley all of Willard. Other survivors include two brothers-in-law, a sister-in-law, and their spouses; and 12 nieces and nephews and their families. Funeral services will be Monday at 11 am. in Willard Mt. Zion Presbyterian Church with burial to follow at Wesley Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday evening from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Wilson Brim-Daniel Funeral Home in Ash Grove. In lieu of flowers, the family has established a James B. Staley Scholarship Fund and would appreciate all memorial contributions to be made to this fund in honor of Jim's love for education.
